The support of the municipal government
needed. Streetsoccer championships.
The projects concerning the organization
of the Homeless World Cup are to be handed in by the end
of February. Barka Sports Association for Social
Integration has already drawn up the necessary document.
The whole idea is supported by the Greater Poland
Football Association, but we are still awaiting the
support of the Poznań municipal government.
“At 1:00 p.m. on Friday 13th,
we are meeting with Maciej Frankiewicz, the
Vice-President of the City of Poznań, and we hope to
convince him to our idea”, says Jacek Kaczmarek, the
vice-president of the Sports Association for Social
Integration. “It is a good occasion for the city to make
itself presentable as the championships are always
popular with the mass media all over the world. It gains
prestige and shows that the city authorities care about
the integration of the society”.
The Homeless World Cup would take place
in summer 2007 and last from 5 up to 10 days. Over 30
countries from all over the world will send their
national streetsoccer teams. While playing in Edinburgh
in 2005, our Polish national team in streetsoccer took
the second place, losing only with Italy that won the
world champion title then.
“I believe there is a good chance that we
may win the tender for the organization of this
tournament”, says Jacek Kaczmarek. “No country in
Eastern and Central Europe has ever hosted such a
sporting event so far”.
The possible organizers of the Homeless
World Cup would like, among others, the city authorities
to provide access to some sports areas and bulidings for
the tournament.
